I'm about 1/2 way through your book and really appreciate what you've written. When you write about certain dates, I try to think about where I was at that time. You write about your friend Robert; I remember Robert, we were both "courtesy clerks" aka baggers at Smiths on Bengal Blvd. One night I was scheduled to work until 9:00 and he was scheduled to work until 10:00. He wanted to get off work early and I agreed to switch with him. Before he left, he came up and gave me a $5.00 bill. We were only making $4.25 / hr back then so that fiver more than doubled my last hour's pay. I tried to reject the money and he said "no-you sacrificed for me, it's yours". I'm not sure why but that memory has always stuck with me.

I love that you picture what you were doing at the time of the dates throughout my book. Working at Smiths with you guys was the best - those were some great days! I LOVE this experience you had with Rob - how awesome is that? I swear, it's the little moments of kindness that we really remember most. Thank you for sharing that with me! I still talk to Rob every now and then, I'll have to tell him that you still remember that.
